The main purpose of the timer is to ensure that users use their pumps for maximum results.

If you asked 100 people to stop after 3 minutes, they would all give a different time, which means that people are either using the pump too little or too much.

The green lights indicate the 3 minutes you should stay on the pump and the red lights indicate the time without the pump. This can be repeated three times to get the manufacturer's recommendation for pump usage.

Most people don't wear a watch (or glasses!) in the shower, so the lights and beeps give them a visual and audible indication of how long the pump will last.
